Long and Short of it Reviews

I have had three wonderful reviews from the above folks, but even if I hadn’t I’d be here letting you know that they are having a grand opening contest. Why? Because they seem like decent folks, and, well, they have some of my swag (including ebooks) in their giveaways. Plus, there will be an interview with me (not sure of exact date of that).

So, if you want to enter their Grand Opening Contest, click on the link.

Or, why don’t you check out their review of Love Songs, posted today.

My favourite quote from the review: “MG Braden has a writing style that is captivating and bold without being trashy.” Thank you Shauna!

Love Songs

Hope you enjoyed the book trailer. Love Songs received 4 Angels from Carly FAR (full review here) in its first review.

I enjoyed this short story very much. It is sweet and romantic. Kayla, Madison’s little niece, is an adorable princess, and I liked the way Cam treated her as such. Even though this story is short the author took the time to make every bit of the plot have weight and value. The attention to detail, like the way Madison ices the cupcakes, makes this story stand out.

Reviews and Reviewing in general

We’ve had two more reviews flow in for this.

from Shauna at The Long and Short of It (click on this for full review):

Small snippets of the review…

For Inheritance by MG Braden:
I enjoyed this story and thought MG Braden did another fantastic job of creating characters that were real, honest and exciting. This story will trap you within its grasp and have you laughing and loving with the characters. And, at times, reaching for something to cool down!

For Summer’s Return by Cindy K. Green:
Cindy K. Green does not disappoint! With beautiful imagery and craftsmanship, she will have you hearing the waves, seeing the sunsets and falling in love!

4 Hearts from Kara Lynn Russell at TRS (click for full review), who didn’t appear enjoy my story as much as Cindy’s BUT still was honest and fair in her review, which I appreciate so much.

For Inheritance by MG Braden:
Ms. Braden took up the challenge of having her characters meet, get to know each other and fall in love within a short story. This is a difficult task and she handles the development of the relationship well. I wish in some instances she had done more showing instead of telling. For example, the reader is told that Chase is a nice person. I’d rather see her in action and figure that out for myself. A bit more back story may have helped as well. Chase and Reece had great chemistry and Braden’s love scenes were wonderful. This is a fun summer read.

For Summer’s Return by Cindy K. Green:
The characters were wonderfully defined, the tension between them was very real. Ms. Green really made this story work in short format by trimming it to the essentials. There are no other characters aside from Parker and Arianna, giving her more time to develop their personalities. They already have a shared past, a relationship. Her writing is crisp and clean. Ms. Green makes every one of her words count and the result is a beautiful, moving story.

I do want to comment on reviewing for a moment. I do reviews myself, under another name. Reviewing is hard work because it is so subjective. The reading itself is not necessarily hard, although it can be, but writing the review, especially if you didn’t like the book is hard. It’s worse if you “know” the author from an online group or through blog travels. When I review I try to be fair, and I always try to find at least one thing I liked about the book. This was someone’s baby. Someone worked hard on it and again, it’s all subjective. There’s only ever been one review that I declined to post, but the book was truly a nightmare and needed editing in the worst way. It’s very easy to write the review when you love the book. A little harder when you just liked it, and truly brutal if you really didn’t like it. While I know there are snarky reviewers out there, and for entertainment value they can be amusing, I think most places try to be fair and I appreciate that very much. I’m not talking about the places that seem to give certain authors or maybe everyone, the same glowing reviews. I don’t want glowing if that’s not how you felt. I’m just saying fair.

So, that verbal spew was a long way of me saying THANK YOU to all the reviewers that have read my books and posted their reviews in a fair and equitable manner. Who have pointed out, what they felt were, weaknesses but in a nice way. Who also pointed out things that worked and why. Thank you – I appreciate you. I appreciate that, in the sea of books to review, you were able to find something of value in my writing. I read, and try to learn, from every review.

New Reviews for Inheritance from A Hint of Summer Beach Duet

Our first review was received the other day from Linda at Romance At Heart Magazine…here is a small snippet from the review of my story:

Inheritance is a lovely romantic tale of two likeable people who match up so evenly. It is almost like Grandma Nancy knew the future, especially when it came to her other family members. The reader gets an intense feel for Chase and Reece, not to mention the family members, who are as greedy as they come. Ms. Braden spins a delightful read that flows consistently and touches on family, love and the joy of having it all without having to depend on material assets. This is one story that really captivates.

Our second review was received today from Coffee Time Romance Coffee Time

4 Cups from Liadan at Coffee Time Romance!

For Inheritance by MG Braden:

A beautiful story of two people thrown together quite by chance. I loved the way the characters seem to be on the same page, yet not quite. There is a distance between them and though they face several trials together, love wins out. MG Braden has written an outstanding love story.

For the entire book Liadan said:

These two stories make the reader long for a summer romance that ends happily… This is one book that you should not pass by, but read and savor each word.

Thank you to both Romance at Heart Magazine and Coffee Time Romance for reviewing the book.

New review for Love’s Blessings & some story facts

Love’s Blessings was an interesting story for me to write. Basically I sat down one afternoon to write one thing, and ended up writing this story. I did not ever intend to write a story like this. My fingers just kept typing, even when I had no thoughts where they would go. It has become the story of my heart, there are pieces of me in this story and pieces of other people I know. I do not take infertility lightly. I have suffered losses of my own. I understand the pain. I also know the ending may be a little too HEA for some people, but the funny thing is that this situation actually happened to our Children’s pastor here, and I found out AFTER I wrote this. His wife has now given birth to a lovely little boy and in two weeks he will go to Africa to pick up not one, but two, children to come join their family. Added to the two children they already have they are going from a family of four to a family of seven in the space of one month.

That being said there is another review for Love’s Blessings, posted today at The Long and The Short of It. Here is a small excerpt:

“Love’s Blessing is an emotional story involving the struggles of infertility. It deals sensitively with a topic that is difficult to discuss – the heartbreak and despair that come from desiring a child, uncertain those longings will be fulfilled. M.G. Braden handles this subject delicately, but with a realness that will capture your heart and emotions.”
