CP Blog Tour – Pick a Card, Any Card by Cassandra Moore

A long time ago, in a galaxy… No, wait. Wrong intro.

Cassandra Moore here. Years ago, I did a lot of tarot card reading. I had quite the collection of decks. I also had other decks of cards used for divination, called oracle cards. I used both depending on the kind of reading I was doing.

What’s the difference? Well, there’s a few. First, tarot cards were used as a playing card deck as well. They’re divided into suits (Swords, Cups, Coins or Pentacles, Staves or Wands), and include both face cards and number cards as well as the Major Arcana. There is some very dark imagery in the tarot card deck. The tarot deck has 78 cards.

The tarot deck also tells a story. It’s the journey of the Fool, or the Fool’s Journey. If you ever sit down and look at the pictures on a tarot deck, each one is a piece of a tale. The picture is the meaning, by and large.

Oracle decks don’t have a history of being playing cards. An oracle deck can have any number of cards in it. There are no suits, or face cards. The darker imagery is usually absent. And while there is the occasional story in the card progression, usually it’s themes instead, such as animals, faeries, angels.

Or vampires.

The Vampire Oracle is a story theme that’s close to my heart, as you can see. I’ve always loved vampires, and adding divination cards to the mix made it an irresistible mix for me to get involved with. In June, the first card stories release. Mine, New Life, will be out in October.

In this case, any card you pick will be a winner.
