It’s Raining, It’s Pouring

…I’d sure like to be snoring!

We are in the midst of a heavy rainfall warning. Yeah. It just keeps coming down and coming down and we are drowning. Now, I realise that I live in a fairly wet area but this is ridiculous! The rain is only fun when it is just you and your dh curled in front of a wood fire with some wine and lovely appetisers. Not when your three children, two of whom have energy to spare, are cooped up and tired of being indoors. Not when you have to drive with the other maniacs who can’t figure out that maybe speeding isn’t a good idea and hydroplaning across the highway even worse.

So, I’d like to say the rain is forcing me to be indoors and, therefore, I am writing. No, instead I am trying to amuse an out-of -town guest (oh, see how early our Cherry Blossoms are blooming because of our weather?), trying to find something for the kids to do to stop them from driving me batty, and praying I don’t have to drive anywhere, any time soon.

What are you doing?

Thursday Thirteen – Foods I Love To Eat

tt4.gif

In no particular order…

  1. Green Thai Curry with beef
  2. Honey Garlic Pork – we have to order two of these because everyone in our family loves it.
  3. Bacon – not just any bacon though, it’s a Martha Stewart recipe that was first made for me by a friend and now I cannot have bacon any other way. It has brown sugar and pepper on it. It’ll make you fall in love. I promise.
  4. Biscuits – not so easy to get in Canada, at least not in Western Canada. We don’t have biscuit McMuffins at McDonald’s up here. Ours are served with English Muffins. However, recently Tim Hortons came up with a breakfast sandwich with a biscuit. It’s amazing.
  5. Greek Salad – especially when it has lots of feta and really good tomatoes.
  6. Caprese Salad – basically boconcini (sp?) and tomatoes with basil, sweet onions and drizzles of olive oil and balsamic (I think there can be different combinations but this is the one I adore).
  7. – ok technically I know that coffee is a beverage but to me it is food since it’s the first thing I have when I wake up. It sustains me, therefore I feel it belongs in this category.
  8. Purdy’s English Toffee – this is like the chocolate to end all chocolates for me. Any occassion where I get this is a good one. I even made something similar for my wedding favours, although I used almonds. It took me a lot of months to make enough and people were trying to steal it from each other at the wedding. I haven’t made it since. It’s easier (albeit more expensive) to just buy it from Purdy’s.
  9. Burritos – well, really any Mexican food but I guess burritos are my favourite. Wait, no, maybe tacos, hmm…Well anyway, we generally make our own at home but when Taco Bell opened up here I was very happy. Most of our Canadian taco places aren’t as good. Although, Taco Del Mar, recently opened up near us and they are good. Very large burritos and you can get pork mole filling.
  10. Mushrooms Neptune at the Keg
  11. Ooey Gooey Cupcakes – we don’t make them often and apparently they started as an Emeril Lagasse recipe but these ooey gooey cupcakes are the best ever. They are chocolate with cream cheese and chocolate chips in the centre and ganache over top.
  12. Salmon – could nature make a more perfect food? I don’t think so.
  13. Lobster – my absolute favourite thing in the entire world. The one thing I had to have when pregnant with each of my children. A whole lobster with butter and a bib. That’s my idea of heaven on a plate. O

There Be Pirates

Melanie Blazer blogged about the new Pirates movie coming out in May so of course I had to check out her blog and go find the trailer and goodies. Read the rest of this entry ?

WIP the Suspense

I’m doing it. I am revisiting Ghost Writer, my romantic suspense, and I’m excited. This is the one I want to pitch at Write On Vancouver in May.

I’ve read through the critiques I got from the Romance Divas when I posted in their critique forum way back in 2005. I started writing this when I was unknowingly pregnant with my last baby. Then I got too sick with that pregnancy to do anything, let alone write. I disappeared for a while.

When I came back I started writing something completely different. Actually, I wrote a few other things. One is under conditional contract with one publisher (and I’m excitedly waiting for my editor to give me her suggestions) and one is Love’s Blessings due out with By Grace Publishing next month. I started and stalled on a dragon novella I wanted for the Samhain Dragon Anthology. It was a very cool idea, and still is, but it’s just not ready to flow yet, so I didn’t make it for the anthology which turned out to be fine for me. I was hoping to submit it to them at a later date, since Angie says they are always looking for good stories, but it appears they are now closed to submissions, as per Angie’s recent TT. Ahh well, it does say temporary so I can always try again later.

So now I’m back to writing Love Inheritance, which is supposed to be destined for a multi-author anthology I am working on with some lovely author friends. We had an original goal of March but all of us have been pushed back by one thing or another.

However, today I dusted off the Ghost Writer ms and this weekend I plan on giving it a re-read (now that I’ve read what the crits have to say) and getting started on it again. I have a head cold but I’m determined not to let that stop me. I was challenged by Cat at Romance Junkies (not that she may remember because it was, ahem, way back in October) to get this one going for January 1st and to shop it around. I had originally submitted this to their contest in 2005 and she had actually remembered it (or she was being nice but either way it worked for me). OK, so I’m a few months late but better late than never, right?

Also, today I read Jaci’s Take Your Writing Career Seriously piece over at Author MBA and I decided I will and I am. I do? (wait isn’t that a love song? :music: LOL)

So here I go…do you see me?

Thursday Thirteen – Children’s Shows I know Too Well

tt a

  1. Dora the Explorer – first my oldest ds and then my dd, I will never get this song out of my head. Hopefully there will be something new by the time youngest is old enough to watch. D-d-d-d Dora, Dora, Dora, Dora, the explorer!
  2. The Wiggles – thankfully, neither of my older two like it anymore and I don’t have those songs running about it my head! Wait, I lied…hot potato, hot potato :music:
  3. Fairly Odd Parents – my oldest LOVES this show and so does my dh. I don’t like that use the word stupid all the time. BUT, it is funny sometimes and most of the time I think Timmy learns something. I think. I hope. :oogle:
  4. Timothy Goes To School – There hasn’t been a new show of these in forever so I think I’ve seen each of them a million times. #1 son used to watch and now dd loves them. This one is actually pretty good.
  5. Little Bear – again, I don’t think they are making new ones of these but they are classic so it’s ok.
  6. 6teen – This is slightly too old for both of my children but there is no swearing, just lots of “dude” and the worst thing about it is the ogling of girls. I, personally, enjoy watching this with them. We like to sing the theme song together.
  7. Scooby Doo – talk about classic! And my oldest loves it. DD watches it too, but mostly because she does whatever #1 son does. He’s her older brother ya know!
  8. Gerald McBoing Boing – honestly this show drives me batty but dd loves it for some reason. What a hero, our soundmaking friend!
  9. Jimmy Neutron – dh and I love it. The kids hate it. Sigh.
  10. The Bear in the Big Blue House – again we love it, they hate it. Except the song which they like to sing with me (we’re a big singing household, well not dh but that’d just be scary!LOL). “Goodbye, goodbye, good friend, goodbye…”
  11. Toopee & Binoo – I don’t even know if I’m spelling it right and I don’t care. Dd loves it! I think it’s a bit strange! LOL
  12. Max & Ruby – once again, rerun city, and what’s with a sister and brother living without parents? I don’t get it but the kids like it. That Ruby just annoys me and how come Max can only ever say one word?
  13. The Backyardigans – both kids like it and I don’t mind it. At least I haven’t seen them a million times over!
