Thursday Thirteen – Things on My Desk

Once again I am not original in doing this but the fact that I feel like there are razor blades in my throat is making it so I don’t really care.

  1. My laptop, printer, modems, etc. Yeah, obvious, I know but still… they are on my desk. :smirk:
  2. Pewter wire basket paper organiser thing that’s supposed to organise my papers but in reality has now just become the place I stuff items I don’t want to see for a while.
  3. My water bottle – I drink a lot of water.
  4. Lotion – my hands get dry very easily.
  5. Random piles of paper that have various meaning, ie: to do, to do soon, look at sometime but not really important, kid’s stuff that I need to find a place for.
  6. My baby’s photo album/first year book that is here to remind me that I should be filling it out. :cheekysmiley: He’s my third child and will be one next month. I should probably get on that.
  7. A pack of Ellora’s Cave Playing Cards that Jaci sent me when I won one of her 12 Days of Christmas Draws. They make me smile. :angelsmiley:
  8. Bills.
  9. A beer stein filled with pens, scissors, screwdriver, Sharpie, etc.
  10. The Valentine’s Card my dh gave me yesterday.
  11. A box of Kleenex.
  12. Pictures of my kids. O
  13. Submission guidelines from an epub with little check marks beside it, which I made as I went through it to make sure I did everything.

Ten Odd Things

I’ve been tagged by both Melani Blazer and Christine D’Abo for this meme. I’m sure I’ve done this before but I will try. You are supposed to list ten odd things, or habits, about yourself – or as Melani says “weird random things”.

I’m not sure I’m at all weird or random but I’ll try. LOL – ok maybe…

  1. I am both controlling and impulsive. This makes it confusing for my family members who are used to me following a particular pattern and then, boom, I change it.
  2. I do not like it when people borrow my pens and don’t put them back. I’ve said this before but it really does annoy me. I bought whacks of pens for your use, leave mine alone. It’s not my fault you lose yours.
  3. Sort of tied to number two but if a pen comes with a cap DON’T put it back on. I like it at the top. I do not like having to uncap pens to use them and I like the caps on the top to make the pens longer. I know it’s weird and I don’t care. Leave my pens alone!!
  4. I don’t like hair. I mean I like my hair and hair that stays on people’s head but I don’t like hair in my sink or shower – even if it’s mine and even if it’s clean. I don’t like it. Yuck. That is why I am thrilled that dh has his own bathroom with shower. I don’t have to find his chest hairs, head hairs or any other hairs in my
  5. I could copy #5 from Christine almost word for word. In fact, I will…”I have a little OCD going on in my life. If I want something I tend to obsess over it until I get it. Check my email a thousand times a day if I’m waiting for someone to answer me. And if I want something bad enough I will get it.” This ocd does not apply to house cleaning, however. LOL
  6. I am a worrier. I will worry about things that do not matter. It drives my dh insane.
  7. I cannot watch horror movies. Or any kind of movie that involves children getting hurt. I worry enough as it is (see #6) and I will have nightmares. Oh yes, I will.
  8. I do not really like chicken. I eat it because it is supposed to be healthy and I have had some good chicken dishes but it still ooks me out. This is because dh made me barely cooked chicken something-or-other when I was pregnant with child #1 and I pretty much haven’t been able to deal well with it since. It took me two years after that before I was able to eat it at all.
  9. Again, oddly similar to Christine, I don’t like cooked green peppers (and again, this stemmed from my first pregnancy). I will, however, eat them raw. I love Greek Salad.
  10. I have a very easy gag reflex. Lots of things can set it off. Even thinking about it can set it off. Oh, I need to stop talking about it.
  11. I think I am supposed to tag 10 people. Most of the people I know have already done this but I’ll try. If I tag you and you’ve done it , otherwise you’re on: RG, Immi, Jackie, Babe,Joely, Elle, Victoria, Jenn(ontheisland), Racy, um…anyone else?

Writing, writing, writing

In the middle of writing on three separate projects I realise I am peddling nowhere fast.  I am not actually writing on three separate projects, I am really only working (writing) on one.

There is going to be a free read project available through the Romance Divas on Valentine’s Day.  There are a lot of Divas signed up and on Valentine’s, along with my free read, I will be posting the link to others who are having free reads that day.  There will be at least 50 writers involved, writing everything from sweet contemporary (as I will) to historical and paranormal, with heat levels from sweet to caliente.

Anyway, I started writing my Valentine story and was wanting it to be fairly short.  Something not too cumbersome for people to swing by and read, or even download (in pdf) and read.  So far I’m at 2500 words and not sure where I’m going.  That’s the bad thing about being a pantser.  I’m nowhere near the end at this point unless I wrap it up in a wholely unsatisfying manner.   Guess I’ll just have to keep on keeping on and see how I do.

:beerclink:Here’s hoping that I like the story in the end and, more importantly, that you do.

Thursday Thirteen – Things to do with your completed ms

      1. Read it and think yourself brilliant!
      2. Edit it and make sure it is brilliant.
      3. Rewrite it when you find it is really not as brilliant as you thought.
      4. Highlight stuff you want to move and then just leave it after all.
      5. Add more emotion.
      6. Add more dialogue.
      7. Add more narrative.
      8. Use it as a coaster for your coffee , or beer if you drink it .
      9. Think about submitting it somewhere.
      10. Go to a variety of publishers to read their submission guidelines.
      11. Think a bit more about submitting.
      12. Send it to your CP so she can tell you it's brilliant
      13. Actually submit it and hope the publisher thinks it's brilliant :oogle:
