Worst lines of writing ever?

So tell me…have you ever read anything and thought that was the worst line ever? Or at least one that made you laugh because it was so cheesy or bad? Maybe you wrote it and thought that (let’s hope you caught it in edits LOL).

I’m not talking whole books of purple prose but just one line in a book that stood out as horrible or that basically defined how awful the whole book was. It could even be an awful line in an otherwise really good book. Just share with us what it is.

Recently I read a not-so-great book. I struggled to get through it. I mean really struggled but I finished it because that’s what I do. I don’t like to not finish books, you know, just in case it gets better or something. Writers work hard at what they do and it’s all subjective. I figure I can try to find something good. In this case, not so much. Anyway the line that I thought was bad was this:

His hands slid up and over her breasts where they rested.

It’s not really horrible, I know, but it bothered me for the rest of the book. How often do your breasts rest? I guess they do all the time it’s just a weird wording if you ask me. Just one of many in this book.

I am this close…

to being finished with this wip. I was going for 50,000 words and now I’m aiming for 40,000. I just don’t think I can draw the story out to 50,000 but if I hit 40,000 and keep going then I was wrong.

I am just excited for it to almost be finished. Then I have to go over all the edits that my CP suggested for the chapters she read and continue with the rest on my own as I have a feeling she’s a bit tied up right now (and not in a good way that I know some people like! ).

Then May and I, along with some brave others, are turning February into Novella in a month so I have even more to write. I am actually trying to finish one novella and start another, for two different projects. Can I do it? Probably not but I’m going to try.

I’ve been tagged – Reading Meme

I’ve been tagged by Christine to do this meme so here we go:

“It couldn’t have gone better, actually. If he’d wanted to he could have wiped them all out tonight. Oh, it would have been too, too easy.”

The above is from Surviving Demon Island by Jaci Burton. I finished the book in December but I still have it stacked on my desk. It was good. Really good.

I’m tagging RG, Elle & Immi (if she ever has time! LOL).

    OK here are the rules:

    1. Grab the book closest to you.
    2. Open to page 123, look down to the 5th sentence.
    3. Post the text of the next 3 sentences on your blog.
    4. Include the title and the author’s name.
    5. Tag 3 people

    Why I’m a pantser

I’m a pantser. I just sit down and write. For one of the stories I’m writing I actually did a synopsis before I started because I was sending a proposal. For me that has pretty much sucked the life out of the story. As far as I’m concerned it’s done. It doesn’t really bode well for this book but I’m trying.

The thing is it is now changing from what I proposed. Which means I may not be able to target it where it was going before. That’s ok because I think there may be another place for it but I feel bad. I feel bad for several reasons but I keep on writing as you never know what the piece may become. Maybe it will go back to what it was, maybe it will grow and become something amazingly different.

All I know is that having spent so much time detailing out what the story was has, for me, inhibited it. Put plainly, I’m bored with it. I already know what happens. I hate knowing what happens.

However, I did get inspired on that wip last week and wrote over 5000 words in just a couple of days. Hopefully I can keep that up and get this baby done and that, no matter where it ends up, it is loved by all who read it.
